The internationally renowned German Design Award’s high-calibre panel of jurors selected the Nook sofa by premium manufacturer COR Sitzmöbel as the winner in the Excellent Product Design – Furniture category. Created by Stuttgart-based designer duo Jehs+Laub, the low-set sofa made its public debut in April at the Milan Design Week and in June at the imm Spring Edition. Thanks to its compact design with high back and sides, the sofa is a comfortable retreat for both private and public spaces.
“The low-set Nook sofa by COR has a wonderful air of lightness about it as a result of the striking shell-like shape of the contrasting underside. It is an expressive design with timeless beauty,” said the jury, explaining its decision.
COR owner Leo Lübke will accept the award on 26 January 2024 in Frankfurt am Main.
Consistent exemplary design
Every COR model satisfies requirements of outstanding design and excellent quality. All COR furniture pieces are made with the same care and attention to detail by the 220-strong team at the production site in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. “Our designs have been living up to the quality expectations of German-made products since 1954,” said Leo Lübke, Managing Partner at COR.
The company has focussed on a modern and distinctive design language, high-quality materials, craftsmanship and precision ever since it was founded almost 70 years ago. COR has a special relationship with the German Design Council, which promotes and communicates design achievements. Even company founder Helmut Lübke believed that this design competition to honour outstanding products played a valuable role, not only providing inspiration to designers and manufacturers, but also in encouraging them to be ethical. “Design is an attitude”. COR continues to embody this conviction today in durable furniture.
