Versatility meets design – COR introduces the next iteration of the Mell upholstered bench

The East Westphalian seating furniture manufacturer is presenting the comprehensive upgrade of the Mell bench, which has been in the portfolio since 2017, at the Interior Days [OWL] event. Originally created as a home living furniture piece by designer duo Jehs+Laub, the bench now has additional elements that make it ideal for the contract furniture sector.

The Mell bench cleverly unites opposites to meet seating requirements in open-plan residential spaces and offices, and to accommodate a lot of people in confined spaces. In fact, the new elements transform the bench into a universal seating system. They can be arranged in “S” configurations, circles or semicircles, lined up infinitely to create elongated benches, or used in combination with low or high backrests and armrests, or none at all. Versatile and individually customised seating landscapes provide plenty of scope for creativity. “Space is always precious. These days, families and teams prefer comfortable seating furniture that blends perfectly with contemporary architecture. The Mell bench ideally meets those requirements,” commented the Stuttgart-based duo, explaining the evolution of their design.

On the outside, the Mell bench (derived from mellow) has a defined edge and a straight back, emphasised by the wide felled seam. Inside, on the other hand, it features gently rounded back cushions and a separate seat cushion. The streamlined tubular steel frame – chrome-plated or lacquered – with rounded internal angles further emphasises the linear design. Overall, the bench has an aesthetically timeless sofa-like look with a welcoming and cosy vibe.

In addition to the obvious applications in places where people play, cook and eat, the Mell bench is the ideal solution for waiting areas, canteens, educational establishments or conference rooms with its overhang element, storage shelf and the Mell bistro tables. And because conferencing, working and waiting are best done on well-cushioned seating with a power connection, the Mell bench also has optional under-cabinet sockets and magnetic cable routing.

“Sitting together as a group creates a sense of togetherness – whether you’re with your team, family or friends. It’s a central element of our social fabric that is perhaps more important today than ever before. That’s why the evolution of the Mell bench was the logical decision to take,” said Leo Lübke, Managing Partner at COR, commenting on the product update.
