Award-winning growth

Twelve percent sales growth in the 60th year of business – German Design Award for trade fair presentations - New management at the factory

The outgoing fiscal year is honouring the achievements of the seating furniture manufacturer COR, established on 17 December 1954, with a sales increase of twelve percent. Sales are expected to total 35.2 million euros. Whereas the emphasis of the sales and marketing activities during the anniversary year was on the design classic CONSETA, in 2015 the focus will be on the overall portfolio. The new collection of high-quality seating and upholstered furniture will be shown for the first time at the imm cologne from 19 to 25 January. The product premieres include CORDIA with ROC, two comfortable chairs, the design of which is considered the supreme discipline of furniture design. CORDIA already received very positive feedback at the pre-premiere at ORGATEC in Cologne in October. The contract segment, for which COR offers a special collection, is becoming increasingly important for the company's success: Its share stood at twelve percent.

Award-winning design – with a hint of luxury

The popularity and success of the brand are founded on the contemporary design and high quality of the manufactured goods. For the brand presence, the manufacturer is developing communicative platforms which include innovative trade fair presentations. For this, the designers and interior architects kräling_lübke will receive the German Design Award 2015 in February – twice: for the two trade fair stands of the former sister companies COR and interlübke. The jury's statement: "For COR, areas were designed which generated a strong spatial effect due to the colour correspondence of large hoods with furniture displayed beneath them. For interlübke the design was inspired by diorama pictures. Cubes with tapered outer surfaces presented the furniture in a central perspective. The focus on the furniture was achieved via insinuated, slightly transparent space limitations. A wonderfully executed overall design that plays adroitly with the contrasts of light and dark."The fact the COR seating furniture brand is fascinating on many levels is demonstrated not least by its continuing good position in the luxury ranking of German brands (again ranked number 15 in the Top Thirty, source: Wirtschaftswoche 2014).

Change of management in production

It puts one in mind of a quadriga: The year has been characterised by four anniversaries. The family business has existed for six decades, its design classic CONSETA is fifty years young. Friedel Ortkrass from the development department has been working at the factory for just as long; twenty-five years of which he shared with Karlheinz Schmeisser, who as the Technical Director has played a key role in developing the manufacturing business into a modern production operation. It was "love at first sight" between him and the then managing director, his father Helmut Lübke. This is how Leo Lübke, who has managed the company since 1994, remembers it: "It is almost impossible to imagine Mr. Schmeisser as a retiree." On December 31, the last official working day, Karlheinz Schmeisser will complete his 25th year with the company. He then wants to explore new worlds – travelling in a motor home purchased specially. He will be accompanied by his wife and grandchildren.  The new Technical Director Hermann-Josef Pöhls (55) benefits from his many years of professional experience in the kitchen furniture industry (e.g. at Poggenpohl) as well as in furniture and seating furniture production (König Möbelwerke GmbH, Karl-Heinz Klose Sitzmöbelwerke). Together with 222 other CORians, including nine trainees, he will continues to have the unmistakable seating furniture made in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. With a "heart" that extends beyond the name alone.
