Ten years of COR Haus

Since 9 September 2008, the brand house in Rheda-Wiedenbrück has been regarded as a hotspot for modern furniture design. COR has been operating the brand centre exclusively since November 2015: with a showroom for home furniture and a trade exhibition for the contract sector.

After a two-year construction period, Leo Lübke opened the new exhibition centre at Hauptstraße 74 in Rheda-Wiedenbrück on 9 September 2008 in the presence of prominent guests from business, culture and the media. Originally built as the COR and interlübke Haus, the property has served exclusively as a brand house for COR since November 2015. The new and expanded design concept created for this purpose comprises two extensive exhibitions of home and contract furniture. A third area, the collection, presents more than 60 years of the premium brand's model history. "The bold plan to build this house and then fill it lastingly with life has proved successful", said Leo Lübke on the occasion of the upcoming tenth anniversary. By way of exception, no work, consultation or planning will take place on the day in question, 9 September 2018. Because on Sundays (and public holidays) the exhibition at the COR Haus is closed. Otherwise, unlike in the factory in Nonenstraße, a six-day week applies.

New contract exhibition: A magnet for planners and architects

Until 2015, the visitors were mainly home furniture retailers and consumers, but since then COR Haus has also been frequented by architects and contract furnishers; the additional trade exhibition is a strong attraction for contract customers. It serves as a training centre for employees and partners in the trade, and students and lecturers from furniture schools are also frequent guests. Changing thematic exhibitions and cultural events lend additional appeal. "Every brand needs a guarantee of origin," says Marketing Director Berthold Strüve. "We are fortunate enough to be able to give it somewhere to live." The approximately 5,000 m² building complex is looked after by a team of experts who also design the changing exhibitions. After every major trade fair such as the imm cologne or Orgatec, the house is refurnished with the latest new models.

Architecture and utilisation concept

The design combines a historic industrial building (a former bag factory) with a new intermediate section and a two-storey low building from the 1970s: Its stylistic idiom embodies both the traditional and the modern. The interior design was planned by the Hamburg-based office kräling_lübke, and the head architect was Uwe Schnittka from Rheda-Wiedenbrück. Today's COR Haus combines two continuously updated exhibitions for home and contract furniture, as well as the collection celebrating the history of the family business founded in 1954. These include models by designers such as Peter Maly (Zyklus), Friedrich-Wilhelm Möller (Conseta), Studio Vertijet (Lava) and Luigi Colani (Polycor, Orbis), who turned 90 this year. Various event areas, training rooms, an atrium with a water basin and a bistro allow multifunctional use. In 2017, the East Westphalian cultural festival "Wege durch das Land" (paths through the state) made a guest appearance; a few years earlier, Hapag-Lloyd presented the new MS EUROPA 2 with furniture from COR at a VIP event. But the focus is and should be on high-quality furniture, its design quality and comfort.
