Applied art of living

From 10 to 12 November, the COR interlübke Studio Vienna is extending an invitation to DESIGN 2017 in the MAK/Museum for Applied Art. Preview: "Moss", a spacious and deeply comfortable new upholstered range, is already being presented ahead of the International Furniture Fair in Cologne (January 2018).

We spend just as much time with high-quality designer furniture as we do with a favourite picture – day after day, year after year. The acquisition of a painting takes us to a gallery, the desire for furniture to furnishers or, as of tomorrow, to the Vienna Museum of Applied Arts, MAK for short. Here, the exhibitor COR interlübke Studio provides completely new inspiration for "Applied Art of Living" in the 21st century. "With the sideboard jorel (interlübke) and the sofa Moss (COR), our presentation concentrates on two innovative furniture designs that embody our understanding of contemporary interior design," explains Managing Director Reiner B. Mortensen. "They are modern, but in their aesthetic they also point beyond the present day. They can be customised to the last detail in their design and manufacture, so that the owners receive their own individual 'piece of art'." Moss, created by the designers Jehs+Laub, impresses with its archaic design language: The body looks like a monolith and evokes the work of a sculptor. Inside, it surprises with its lush, extremely soft cushion surfaces into which one literally sinks – and be happy never to get up again. As a new, closed-based divan, the furniture rests on a fine flat steel construction. "We are reversing traditional forms," the designers emphasise, "instead of thin cushions and a heavy base, Moss has been given a generous cushion volume and an 'invisible' frame. Despite its abundant volume, it appears to float in the room." The individual easy chair Cordia Lounge also conveys the same sense of comfort. Sensual materials such as largely natural leather and woven fabrics producing a tactile effect underline the concept of a comfortable living oasis.

The focus of the exhibition will then be on jorel, interlübke's new sideboard, which was awarded "Best of Best" in the Interior Innovation category at the Iconic Awards 2017. It has also just been declared "Winner" in the Furniture category at the German Design Award 2018. With his architectural design language, designer Philipp Mainzer has applied the principles of visual art and combined them with a functional concept: The result shown in Vienna as a room divider, with elements that can be individually configured, is only one of many possible variations. jorel captivates with its clear geometry, exquisite materials and protruding fronts just 4 mm thick and a striking grip recess to emphasise the vertical lines. A bronze metallic colour has been selected for the sideboard finished in an extremely fine matt lacquer. The incorporated bar element, which features the same metallic look on the inside, embodies a further aspect of the manufacturer's competence: versions in rear-lacquered glass, shown here in the colour variant mocca.
